The Cannes Film Festival

Undeniably one of the most prestigious events of the year, the Cannes Film Festival is fast approaching. Not only does the festival draw together some of the biggest names from the world of film, the heady combination of silver screen glamour and an historical sense of louche extravagance that exudes from the French Riviera combine to attract stars and personalities from the world of sport, music, politics and business.

Over the course of the ten day festival, which begins this year on March 13th, the town of Cannes becomes the focus of a media frenzy, who have an insatiable appetite for all things related to fame, champagne, parties, and super yachts.

Inevitably there is a spike in the number of enquiries we receive for private jet charters to Cannes. Whilst many flying in come for the festival alone, many also take the opportunity to build in a break on the beautiful Côte d’Azur, and this again leads to a very busy period for private jet flights to Cannes and other regional airports such as Nice.

Flying by Private Jet to Cannes and Nice

Cannes itself is serviced by Cannes-Mandelieu airport. This airport is not open to scheduled traffic and is only available to light aviation and private aircraft. The airport is approximately 7km’s from the town itself – a fifteen minute drive – and also has a dedicated private terminal building to cater for VIP arrivals.

For private jets too large for Cannes airport, Nice Côte d’Azur airport is the alternative of choice. Nice usually receives over 50% of the private jet traffic to the Cannes film festival, so you will be in good company – and as with Cannes it also has a dedicated terminal which caters for private jet traffic and general (light) aviation. Nice Côte d’Azur is approximately a half hour drive from Cannes so for those flying in on private charters, it is equally convenient.
